Islands have always had an attractive effect on people. The certain unreachability that they radiate makes them particularly interesting, do you not think so? And most of the time you arrive there and are surrounded by natural beauty.

Portugal has the privilege of owning two such islands, or rather archipelagos: Madeira and the Azores.

Portugal's archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean

Many people may already know the Portuguese mainland, famous for its great cultural and scenic diversity. Unfortunately, however, some people tend to forget that in addition to the magnificent continental area, these two fantastic archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean also belong to Portugal.

Madeira is probably best known for its flower splendour. But in addition to the large variety of flowers, the island also has a lot to offer in terms of landscape. The Azores, which is especially popular with hiking holidaymakers, also have an impressive nature. This uniqueness of nature is related both to the mild climate prevailing there and to the geological origin of the islands.

The Macaronesian Islands

Both Madeira and the Azores belong to the Macaronesian Islands. The term "Macaronesia" includes the archipelagos of volcanic origin located in the eastern Central Atlantic; thus, in addition to the Azores and Madeira, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. This volcanic origin is strongly pronounced in the natural landscapes of the archipelago. In addition to high cliffs, volcanic craters and mountains, the islands also have beautiful valleys and picturesque bays.

Both the archipelagos belonging to Portugal and the various regions of mainland Portugal have their own identities, not only in terms of landscape but also culturally, but if there is one thing that all the regions have in common, it is the hospitality of the locals.
